SkillSelect Update April 2019

Invitation Numbers

The April SkillSelect invitation round information has just been released and the figures are surprising... and totally shocking!

The latest round saw invitations sent to a meagre 100 subclass 189 visa applicants, and the standard 10 Subclass 489 family sponsored applicants.

As we get closer to the end of June (and the Federal Election on 18 May) invitation quotas have dropped significantly in what appears to be a plan to manage the numbers of visas granted this financial year.

Point scores for non-pro rata occupations has increased:

The points score for non-pro rata 189 has jumped up to 80 points, with only a one month waiting time at this score.

No change to 489 Family Sponsored visas:

Invitations for this subclass remain at 10 per month, requiring a point score of 80. Wait times have crept up to around 5 months from lodgement of an EOI.

Pro-rata occupations:

Pro-rata occupations are classified as those for which there is more demand for places than there are places available. These occupations usually have a point score higher than the non-pro rata occupations.

11 April 2019 Invitation Rounds scores for pro-rata occupations are:

Occupation ID Description Minimum Points Score Latest date of EOI
2211 Accountants 90 10/04/2019 10:04pm
2212 Auditors, Company Secretaries and Corporate Treasurers 85 14/12/2018 4:04 pm
2334 Electronics Engineer 80 11/03/2019 4:54 pm
2335 Industrial, Mechanical and Production Engineers 80 07/03/2019 3:45 pm
2339 Other Engineering Professionals 80 31/12/2018 8:56 pm
2611 ICT Business and System Analysts 85 10/04/2019 2:49 pm
2613 Software and Applications Programmers 80 12/03/2019 3:40 pm
2631 Computer Network Professionals 80 14/03/2019 6:56 pm

As can be seen from the table, the minimum points score for Accountants increased to 90, Auditors and ICT Business and Systems Analysts are up to 85 points, and all other pro-rata occupations have increased to 80 as well. This is due to the smaller number of invitations issued in this round, and could change again if the quota is increased in upcoming rounds.
