The NSW State Government has announced that they will reopen their State Migration Plan from 14 July 2014.
This means that it will be possible to apply for nomination for the
Skilled - Nominated Subclass 190 visa. Nominations for this type of visa have been closed since December 2013 and so this is a great opportunity for people who are interested in this type of visa. Subclass 190 is a very favourable visa - it gives applicants permanent residence, and allows them to live anywhere in the nominating state (including Sydney).
Application Intakes
NSW will have four application intakes. In each intake, a maximum of 1000 applications will be approved and nominated. Intake opening dates will be as follows:
- 14 July 2014
- 14 October 2014
- 19 January 2015
- 14 April 2015
At this point, NSW anticipates that these will be open for 4-6 weeks for each intake. However, the timeframe may be smaller, depending on the number of applications received.
We would recommend that applicants be prepared to lodge shortly after each intake opens to avoid disappointment.
Occupations List
NSW has announced that they will expand their occupations list and include all occupations on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL).
At this point, we anticipate that all occupations available for nomination in the 2013-14 financial year will also be open.
NSW has indicated that they may revise this list throughout the year, based on the occupational categories received.
Processing Time
NSW has given an indicative processing time of 12 weeks.
Online Lodgement
NSW will only be accepting 190 nominations lodged by their new online system. It will remain to be seen whether they will also require hard copies of documents to be sent through as was previously the case.
Conclusion
The reopening of the NSW 190 State Nomination program is a great boon to applicants for this subclass.
We would recommend that applicants be prepared ahead of the published intake dates to avoid disappointment.
