Electrical Engineers have the highest percentage of quota met

The March 2020 round saw another increase in the total number of invitations; up an additional 550 places for a total of 2050 invites sent. 1750 of these went to Subclass 189 EOIs, with a minimum points score of 90. The balance 300 went to Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Family Sponsored) EOIs, with their minimum points score remaining steady at 85.

Pro-rata occupations:

Due to high levels of demand, certain occupations are issued invitations on a pro-rata basis. Places are first allocated to 189 EOIs, with remaining places issued to the 491 Family Sponsored EOIs.

What are the most invited occupations?

Software and Application Programmers received a mammoth 464 invitations, meaning just under 22% of the total occupation ceiling quota for has now been met.

Currently sitting around 23 to 25% of total quota are:

  • Accountants (155 invitations this round)
  • Auditors, Company Secretaries, and Corporate Treasurers (88 invitations this round)
  • Industrial, Mechanical and Production Engineers (90 invitations this round)
  • Other Engineering Professionals (57 invitations this round)
  • ICT Business and Systems Analysts (146 invitations this round)
  • Computer Network Professionals (144 invitations this round)
  • Telecommunications Engineering Professionals (44 invitations this round)

Electrical Engineers currently have the highest percentage of total occupation ceiling, with around 31.5% of quota now met.

Our Thoughts

With three rounds left until the end of this financial year, it will be interesting to see if occupations with a higher quota percentage will continue to receive invitations. Trades occupations are also very highly under-represented in the invitation rounds, with many occupations in this field still without any invitations issued since 1 July 2019.
